Sunanda Kale, is a resilient and determined woman. Married young, she endured years of domestic violence and was eventually abandoned by her in-laws. Left to raise her children alone, she struggled to survive by doing daily wage work.

In 2011, Sunanda joined a self-help group and soon became its president. Her leadership grew as she attended various training programs. Later, she served as a Vardhini and Internal Community Resource Person (ICRP), guiding and mentoring other women on their path to self-reliance.

In 2015, she joined the Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDP) under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP), facilitated by Swayam Shikshan Prayog. The training helped her understand business planning, financial literacy, market insights, problem-solving, and the mindset needed to become an entrepreneur.

With support from the Community Enterprise Fund (CEF), Sunanda started her own tailoring business. Today, she earns around โ‚น7,000 per month, with higher income during festival seasons. Her business not only supports her family but also gives her the strength and confidence to mentor other women.

โ€œEmpowerment is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering sustainable development,โ€ she says, reflecting on her journey.

Thanks to her efforts, Sunanda has built her own home, educated her children, and supported her daughterโ€™s marriage. She is now a respected figure in her community, known for her resilience and leadership.
