She Never Dreamed of Becoming a Leader
In Reula village of Gaya district, Bihar, life had always followed the same path for Sindhu Kumari. Married young and raising three children, her world revolved around her home. Like many rural women, she wanted to earn an income but never imagined she could build a livelihood of her own.
Then one day, an SSP team walked into her village.
What began as a simple conversation during a community survey became the turning point in her life.
With just βΉ5,000 in savings and encouragement from an SSP Super Sakhi, Sindhu started selling clean energy products from village to village. Every customer she met strengthened not only her business but also her confidence. With continuous mentoring from Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), she transformed from a homemaker into a successful entrepreneur-and eventually, a Super Sakhi.
But Sindhu didn’t stop there.
Today, she has mentored 20 women to become Sakhis, helping them build livelihoods of their own. She has also adopted Women-Led Climate Resilient Farming, growing vegetables that improve her family’s income while inspiring sustainable farming across her community.
“It feels like I have been reborn because of SSP.”
One conversation changed Sindhu’s life.
Today, Sindhu is changing the lives of many other women.
