In Bhoesamudra village of Latur district, Maharashtra, Shital Giriโs journey reflects the power of opportunity and belief. Born into a modest farming family, Shital completed her education up to Class 12. After losing her father at a young age, her mother single-handedly managed the family and their farm. Married early in 2011, Shitalโs life soon centered around household responsibilities, leaving little space for her own aspirations.
A turning point came when her husband, after working at a local hospital, began running a natural milk company agency. Through this small shop, Shital saw an opportunity to step beyond domestic work. She participated in a 10-day entrepreneurship training facilitated by Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) โ and that experience changed her path.
With new skills and confidence, Shital started a homemade cake and cupcake business using the milk shop as her base. Gradually, she expanded into producing banana and potato chips (both dried and fried), investing in machinery to strengthen and sustain her micro-enterprise. Today, she sells 5โ7 kg of cakes daily, with sales rising significantly during festive seasons.
Her enterprise now generates a steady net monthly income of โน12,000โโน15,000 and provides regular employment to 5โ6 local women. By focusing on quality, hygiene, and consistency, Shital has earned strong customer trust and recognition within her community.
More than financial stability, Shitalโs journey represents confidence regained and leadership embraced. She now envisions expanding her production capacity and reaching wider markets, while continuing to inspire other rural women to believe in their potential.
โI never imagined I could run my own business. One training helped me believe in myself, and that belief changed everything for me and my family.โ
