Pushpa Panchal hails from Chapoli village in Latur district, Maharashtra. Growing up in a family of nine, she learned early to balance responsibility with aspiration. Even while supporting her household, she remained committed to her education, completing her 10th standard and, in 2025, enrolling in the Arts stream for higher secondary studies.
To contribute to family income, Pushpa initially took up blouse stitching. While it provided some earnings, the work was irregular and offered limited scope for growth. She was keen to find a more stable and independent livelihood.
Her turning point came in 2025 when she joined Swayam Shikshan Prayog and participated in a six-day residential training programme. The experience strengthened her confidence and introduced her to new livelihood possibilities.
Motivated to start something of her own, Pushpa launched a garland-making enterprise with an investment of Rs 10,000. Using plastic, polyester, and fabric materials sourced from Pune, she began production at the village level. In the early days, she reached customers through door-to-door sales, gradually building trust through consistent quality.
Today, her business has grown steadily. She earns between Rs 6,000 and Rs 7,000 per month, with higher income during festive seasons. Orders now come through phone calls and WhatsApp, reflecting improved market access and confidence.
Importantly, Pushpa has expanded her enterprise to include eight local women, providing them with regular income through piece-rate work.
βI learned that when a woman believes in herself, even a small start can change her life,β she says.
Looking ahead, she aims to formalize her business with a brand name and registration, moving towards a stronger entrepreneurial identity.
