Jyoti Chandrakant Kale, Shirala village, Latur district, Maharashtra

From adversity to empowerment through compassionate support

Jyoti Chandrakant Kale, from Shirala village in Latur district, Maharashtra, embarked on a transformative journey that highlights her resilience and dedication. Jyoti’s early life was good as her father had a job. After her marriage in 2000, she faced significant challenges as her family’s financial situation worsened.

Determined to support her family, Jyoti began offering tuition services for children and engaged in sewing, a skill she had mastered. With agriculture providing limited opportunities, she leveraged her sewing expertise by starting a sewing class for girls in Shirala village. Over time, Jyoti successfully trained approximately 70 to 80 girls, empowering them with valuable skills.

Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to take orders for wedding garments and craft micro-items, further diversifying her income streams. She diversified her business by attending a cake-making class, which enabled her to start a cake-making and selling venture.

Jyoti’s contributions extended beyond individual achievements when she joined Swayam Shikshan Prayog SSP as a village Sakhi. Her role involved training women entrepreneurs supported by

#Avendus , where she facilitated 45 women in business in Latur. Her work with SSP provided a platform to guide and support grassroots women (Nearly 450 Women), significantly boosting self-confidence and professional growth.

Her initiative to access Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (

#PMFME) scheme, offering a grant of 1 lakh with a 35% subsidy helped over 30 women. Jyoti’s decision to disseminate the scheme’s benefits to fellow women rather than focusing on her own advantage exemplifies her commitment and determination. So far, Jyoti gave credit and government linkage access to over 45 women for various schemes worth Rupees 95 Lakhs.

Recognizing her dedication and experience, SSP appointed her as a Sakhi at Block level, further affirming her contributions and leadership. She acknowledges that her current achievements are a result of her perseverance and SSP’s support. Her journey from facing adversity to becoming a beacon of empowerment for others underscores the profound difference that compassionate and proactive assistance can make in transforming lives.
