In Shelgav Diwane village of Dharashiv district, Maharashtra, Jaymala Bhatlawandeโ€™s life took a difficult turn in 2021. After the sudden loss of her husband, she was left to manage her home, farm, and debts of over โ‚น7.5 lakhโ€”alone. With no savings and growing responsibilities, every day became a struggle to provide for her children and sustain their future.

But Jaymala chose to rebuild.

In September 2021, she joined Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP). Through training in sustainable farming, financial planning, and enterprise development, she began to regain confidence and reimagine her livelihood.

Today, Jaymala has created a strong, diversified farming system. She manages dairy farming with four cows, goat rearing, poultry, and organic vegetable cultivation. By setting up a biogas unit and vermicompost beds, she has reduced costs while improving soil health and sustainability.

Her efforts have brought steady incomeโ€”around โ‚น25,000 per month from milk, โ‚น60,000โ€“โ‚น65,000 annually from goats, along with additional earnings from poultry, vermicompost, and a small flour mill.

Beyond her own progress, Jaymala has emerged as a leader. As an active member of the Prema Gopalan Farmer Producer Company, she supports other women to access credit, adopt sustainable livelihoods, and build their own enterprises.

Today, Jaymala has cleared major debts, rebuilt her home, improved her familyโ€™s nutrition, and secured a better future for her children.

โ€œI knew nothing about running a business. SSP gave me knowledge, strength, and dignity. Today, I stand firmly on my own feet.โ€
