Women farmers embrace Organic Farming during COVID crisis

Women farmers in climatic risk areas are adapting organic farming methods to improve yields & boost incomes. Under the strong leadership & knowledge network, women farmers are trying to increase the income with innovative practices with the support of their families.

Janaki Dattatraya Suryavanshi is one such farmer from Nagarsoga, Ausa taluka of Latur district. Facilitated by SSP, she learned various techniques in agri allied business & decided to start dairy business. She sold about 30 litres of milk to Lakshmi Dairy in the village & earning Rs 700-800 per day. Janaki has enough cows to get manure for making vermi compost. She got good yield & income this time due to adoption of mixed cropping system.

“A farmer cannot be economically viable without engaging in agriculture & all this was possible with the support of my husband”, says Janakitai. Various training has helped her in understanding the nature of organic farming. Now she planted banana & mango trees to get more income & protect the environment.
