From Village Woman to Clean Energy Champion

Babita Kumari (36) never imagined she would become an entrepreneur. Coming from a humble family, money was always limited and opportunities felt out of reach. But Babita always had a strong desire to move forward and do something on her own.

In 2024, she met the SSP’s team during a village meeting and decided to join as a Urja Sakhi(Clean Energy Sakhi). Through training and support, Babita learned about climate change, clean energy solutions and small livelihood opportunities. Slowly, she began gaining confidence.

Babita started visiting nearby villages, talking to people about clean energy and the harmful effects of pollution. She began selling simple and affordable clean energy solutions like LED bulbs, solar products, biogas units and induction stoves. She even opened a small shop in her village.

Today, Babita’s work has helped reduce nearly 5000 metric tons of carbon emissions every year in her village! Farmers using the organic manure she sells are now growing healthier food on 5 acres of land.

Babita earns ₹6,000 every month and is now respected as a social entrepreneur. The girl once ignored by society is now seen as a leader and problem solver.

Babita proudly says:”If I had not joined SSP, I would never have received recognition for my work. Today I feel I am doing something meaningful for my family, village and the environment.”
