In times of need, only money talks

With the Entrepreneurship Development Training Program supported by HSBC, Ashwini Balaji Deshmukh, a 35-year-old single parent from Borfal village in Tal Ausa, Latur, transformed her life and inspired others within just ten months.

Initially aspiring for education, Ashwini’s familial obligations led her to marry Mr. Balaji Deshmukh at the age of 20. Unaware of his alcoholism, she bore two children while witnessing his health decline. His passing in 2015 left her unsupported by her in-laws, prompting a move to Nilanga with her father.

In Nilanga, Ashwini learned sewing and beauty skills from her mother, unaware of her in-laws’ plan to sell their farmland. Upon returning to Borfal, she became involved with SSP through the grassroots woman leader, Bhageshree Tai, and enrolled in the HSBC supported Entrepreneurship Development training program through SSP.

Though initially hesitant, Ashwini found motivation in the challenges of entrepreneurship. Completing the training, she launched a sewing business from home and expanded into a parlour setup with guidance from the grassroots woman leader of SSP.

Now earning INR 4,000 monthly, Ashwini faced adversity when her son fell ill, reinforcing her resolve for self-reliance. Understanding the importance of financial independence, she realized that in times of need, only money speaks.
