Annapurna Thosar, Latur district, Maharashtra

All roads led to Osmanabad, Maharashtra yesterday where a mega event of honouring 475 Swayam Sakhis was organised.

This Prize Distribution Event on May 29, 2023 was organised by USAID’s SAREP Partnership Fund (SPF) Grantee Swayam Shikshan Prayog – SSP to commemorate women #microentrepreneurs who have been working tirelessly on-field in 3 districts of Maharashtra, namely Latur, Osmanabad and Solapur. The event was attended by entire SSP project staff and Osmanabad District Industries Centre officers and other representatives.

SSP has been #empoweringwomen micro entrepreneurs who are further driving the clean energy transition in villages by using products such as subjee coolers and bio digestors. To encourage the integration of #sustainableproducts, subsidies were announced at the event. A product training under the SAREP grant was also organized to help them hone their skills and promote women’s leadership.

These remarkable women are not just adopting sustainable products; they are also improving their monthly incomes substantially and this event was a conglomeration to encourage massive networking, product marketing and eventually enhancing their income by selling these products.

During the event, swayam sakhis like Annapurna Thosar narrated their experiences on becoming the biggest proponents of biogas. “Earlier firewood and LPG were used in the villages but now we have convinced women to adopt biogas for both agriculture and cooking and will continue to do so”, she shared.

We are inspired by the dedication and commitment of these women who have built a strong network in the hinterlands of Maharashtra. Their success stories serve as a powerful reminder that #sustainability and #entrepreneurship can go hand in hand.
