Sangita Bhalerao’s story begins in Talegaon, a village nestled in Jalna district, Maharashtra, faced many hardships early in life. Married young, she had to leave her education behind and soon faced many hardships. Her husband’s irregular income and the added responsibility of caring for a daughter with a disability made life even more difficult.

In 2014, Sangita joined the Lakshmimata Mahila Self-Help Group (SHG). Over time, she became a strong leader, helping form and revive other SHGs in the area. Though she is illiterate, she confidently took on key roles and earned the respect of her peers.

In 2021, Sangita joined the Entrepreneurship Development Training under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP), facilitated by Swayam Shikshan Prayog. The training taught her about business planning, financial literacy, market understanding, problem-solving, and most importantly, how to think like an entrepreneur.

Using this knowledge and support from the Community Enterprise Fund (CEF), Sangita started a business making bamboo baskets and brooms. She began selling her products in local markets, and her monthly income grew to β‚Ή9,000. With a clear plan to buy materials in bulk and train other women, Sangita is determined to grow her enterprise.

Her financial independence has brought big changes β€” her daughter now receives better medical care and emotional support. Sangita herself is more confident and empowered.

β€œMy journey is a testament to the power of self-reliance and entrepreneurship,” says Sangita.

Today, she is a respected entrepreneur and a source of inspiration for women in her village who dream of building something of their own.
