Consultancy for carrying out a needs assessment of rural unemployed women in Latur and Osmanabad districts of Maharashtra, and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for intervention.

Project In Brief :

The needs assessment is a Dalyan Foundation supported assignment that envisages to understand the felt needs of the target beneficiaries (women from vulnerable households), their current status on various socio-economic parameters, their problems, perspectives, aspirations, constraints & strengths on developmental programs and strategies, etc. The development intervention to be further designed would be based on the insights gleaned from this needs assessment. The assignment would also study the needs and challenges of the women micro entrepreneurs that were supported under a previous SSP-Dalyan Foundation initiative towards further strengthening them. Post the needs assessment study, the consultant would prepare a concept note and detailed project report in consultation with the Dalyan Foundation.

Need :

SSP is looking for consultants who can provide consultancy services for conducting the need assessment and preparation of the concept note & detailed project report. This would include designing the needs assessment protocol, imparting required training to the field staff on methodologies to be employed in field research, supervising the data collection exercise, data analysis, conduct of the feedback and logical framework workshop and preparation of reports and proposal.

Assignment In Brief

Key components of the assignment would be:

  • Secondary Research: review of relevant secondary literature pertaining to the women livelihoods in the project districts and the status of their economic empowerment, problems, challenges, opportunities, etc.

  • Quantitative Study: Preparation of study plan using quantitative methods, conducting surveys via administering questionnaires, and data analysis through the field staff

Qualitative study:

Design the qualitative study using the participatory learning and action (PLA) tools like PRA or a combination of survey and PRA tools. A judicious mix of PRA techniques to be employed, such as visual techniques, Group and Team Dynamics Methods, Focus Group Discussions, Structured or semi-structured interviews, etc.


  1. Training the field staff on the research methodologies to be employed, and in engaging the relevant people, especially the local communities, in learning about their needs, available opportunities, and actions required to address them.

  2. Data collection and on-field data analysis and validation

  3. Recording and reviewing the consolidated data

    • Conducting the feedback and participatory planning (LFA) workshop

    • Preparation of Concept Note and Detailed Project Report

Contract Period

CONTRACT PERIOD for the consultancy will be nine weeks and at the sole discretion of Swayam Shikshan Prayog management targeted during the project period. Contract will be governed by standard terms of service contracts of the organization. And will be shared with shortlisted candidates upon request.

 

Qualification & Experience

  1. Consultant / Agency must have enough qualification in providing technical services in research methodologies and preparation of project reports

  2. Consultant / Agency must have minimum 10 years of experience, with demonstrated track record of keen interest in similar assignments.
 

Remuneration

REMUNERATION will be on par with the norms in Social sector. Interested candidates are expected to make a financial offer of their minimum expectation.

Selection Process

A shortlist of maximum three consultants will be established based on expressions of interest. The shortlist will be evaluated on the following criteria on the basis of their updated resume, financial offer and their reference check by Swayam Shikshan Prayog:


  • Academic qualifications

  • Years of project management and relevant economic development /sector experience

  • Experience in working with international organizations and Govt

  • Language proficiency (English).

Preference will be given to candidates having successfully handled similar assignment. Weightage will also be given to candidates with whom Swayam Shikshan Prayog had prior satisfactory association.

Final selection will be by a Management Committee of Swayam Shikshan Prayog, who may telephonically interview the shortlisted candidates and decision of the Committee will be final and binding.
