Women Leader and Lead of a Model Farm School
A women led farm field school is established in Wayanad, Kerala by Swwayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) and is spearheaded by Janaki Amma. She champions chemical free farming practices to enhance food security and nutrition.
“It was only after SSP came to my village that I was able to do farming with a different approach. I have all the support of SSP and they taught me how to sow seeds, what to look out for when they sprout, after how many days I should apply lime, and how to germinate the seeds and its process. Now I know how to effectively control the pests on my plants without harming the environment.”
Janaki Amma is mentoring and nurturing fellow women farmers about climate resilient farming practices to scale up to neighbouring communities.
“Living with a simple life and farming was something I cherished. Now that I have received so much learning and encouragement, it has been a great joy to do this for our community and environment.”

Janaki Amma’s success story is part of SSP’s work that supports scaling the Women-led Climate Resilient Farming (WCRF) model in Wayanad district in Kerala and Bidar district in Karnataka. This initiative empowers women farmers, fosters climate-resilient agriculture, and drives support for sustainable farming. With financial support from Oak Foundation, SSP is building resilient communities and promoting food security.
