Lalita Devi, Mahadalit Community From Bihar

Journey of A Community Leader

“Pursuing my education is what gave me confidence in life & my decision to start a business” says Lalita Devi, who hails from Mahadalit community from Bihar.

In 2016, Lalita Devi joined received trainings on entrepreneurship. She started running a kirana store business by taking a loan of Rs 25,000 from her SHG. These inspired her to study further & to become a Sakhi too.

Today Lalita is an Energy Sakhi with SSP’s network. She like many others, did not complete schooling, but had learnt through hands on course on Entrepreneurship.

She is retailing a variety of solar solutions & high impact products, adding to her already existing kirana shop which she started off with a loan from her group. Lalita now sells solar products at her shop & inspires other women to do businesses.

She joined Sakhi Task Force to help people in her village, distributed 50 ration kits to poor families, helped with the applications of Old age pensions, Indira Awaas Yojana and stitched 2000 masks to be distributed among villagers.

Her leadership during the pandemic has been praised throughout the village. Small acts of help and knowledge of doing business established her as a community leader.
