Daiwashala Moghe from Murg village in Bidar district, Karnataka, is quietly reshaping her place in farming. Living with a disability in her right leg, she was once told she could not work in the fields. Today, she continues to challenge that belief through her work.

With 1.5 acres of land and a small kirana shop at home, Daiwashala manages farming alongside her family responsibilities. Two years ago, her journey with Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) began with hesitation. Her family was unsure about organic farming and attending trainings. But after engaging with the SSP team and joining meetings and exposure visits, their perspective slowly shifted.

She began experimenting with bio-inputs like vermicompost, Dashparni ark, and neem-based solutions on a small patch of land. Over time, the results became visible. Soil quality improved, cultivation costs reduced by 35 percent, and she saved around β‚Ή7,000 by avoiding chemical fertilizers. Today, she grows vegetables like spinach, chilli, tomato, and beans, and sells them in the weekly market.

Daiwashala is now a Community Resource Person and part of the SHG federation, working with women farmers in her village. She supports them to access schemes, loans, and adopt sustainable practices.

What has changed most is her role within her own space. From depending on others for decisions, she now takes the lead in farming choices and discussions. Even at home, her voice carries weight when it comes to how the land is managed.
