In Chincholi village of Dharashiv, Maharashtra, Manisha Ware has built a steady livelihood with her small piece of land.

After studying till the 10th standard, Manisha lived in Pune for some years after her marriage. In 2010, she returned to her village because of family problems and started farming with her husband. With only one acre of land, it was difficult for her to meet the household expenses.

To support the family expenses, Manisha bought a goat. By 2022, she had 15 goats, but her income was still limited. In 2023, when she attended Swayam Shikshan Prayog – SSPโ€™s training on goat rearing, enterprise building, and livelihood planning, she learned how to take care of goats, improve their health, and expand her small business.

After the training, Manisha started rearing goats more systematically. She built a small shed with the help of a โ‚น10,000 grant from the Sarayi Sakhi Producer Company. She avoided selling goats early and focused on increasing her herd. By the end of 2025, she had 65 goats.

Along with goat rearing, Manisha started growing vegetables like okra, cluster beans, spinach, red amaranthus, colocasia, and ambadi on her one-acre farm. She sells them in the weekly Bhoom market. She also planted drumsticks and started small poultry with ten chickens.

Today, Manisha earns around โ‚น3 lakh a year from her goats, vegetables, and drumsticks. She now hires other women to work on her farm. Many women in her village visit her to learn about goat rearing and vegetable cultivation.

Manisha says, โ€œEarlier I questioned what I could do with just one acre of land. Today, that same land gives me income, confidence, and respect.โ€
