Success story of a Rural Entrepreneur
Surekha Gaikwad, an entrepreneur residing is an energetic woman with the zeal & a hope to address the needs of her family. Surekha lost her husband and is survived by 3 daughters, one who disabled. Her real challenge is to make a living & build a future for her daughters.
She was working as a daily wager in a farm before joining the Women Entrepreneurship & Leadership Initiative (WELI) training by SSP. The knowledge on basic entrepreneurship led her to do business in goatery & setting up a Grocery store. She took a loan of INR one lakh (USD 1300) as a capital to start her business.
Surekha has built a valuable customer base in her village through quality products she gets from hyderabad. Her business during the COVID-19 pandemic helped many vulnerable and poor families.
Speaking about the change that she sees in her life, she values the education and trainings received from Swayam Shikshan Prayog and confidence that came along. Her future plan is to support her daughters to settle their life and expand her business in nearby villages and motivate other women in her community.
