Journey of a homemaker becoming Panchayat Leader

“If I had not been working as a Sakhi (women entrepreneur), I would have been confined to my house only”, says Sandhya Devi.

Sandhya Devi from Prophetpur Panchayat of Muzaffarpur district was involved in Women’s Entrepreneurship in Clean Energy (wPOWER India) program of SSP back in 2012. Since then her knowledge on solar energy earned her a fond name called ‘Solar Didi’. Her active involvement and commitment benefited in 2016 Panchayat elections as she was elected Upmukhya of the Panchayat. When the whole country was under lockdown and COVID cases were spreading, Sandhya took the lead in making masks for the needy people supported by Gram Panchayat.

When unemployment soared and dalits had no food, she arranged 52 packets of dry food for them with the help of Swayam Shikshan Prayog and Kanchan Seva Ashram.
