“Biogas help families with clean flame for cooking, low installation cost & easy shift to Biofarming”

“When I came to know about the biogas unit & its utility, I knew we had the answer. With a one-time installation cost of Rs. 33,000 & with minimum installation process, we got it installed near our house.” says Keshar Rasal, Malkaranja village, Osmanabd district, Maharashtra. In many small villages even though people have shifted to use of natural gas for cooking, due to its high cost its utility is confined & people still prefer to use traditional firewood based methods for cooking, bringing along breathing problems & smarting eye issues in rural women.

“We also got the benefit of government schemes and a subsidiary of Rs. 26,000 was credited to our account within 40 days of installation.” says Keshar

This biogas runs on cow dung, water and farm waste. It runs for 3 hours morning and evening and provides a clean flame for cooking. The by-product of the biogas, the ‘slurry’ can be utilized in farms as bio manure. This has helped us to shift to biofarming methods more easily providing us with more healthy and cost-effective farming ways.

“I would recommend every family to shift to a biogas unit as it has one time installation cost, provides clean flame for cooking and free biomanure for the farm. The structure is designed in such a way that it makes it safe and leak proof to be installed near the house,”

Through the initiative of Swayam Shikshan Prayog – SSP and Sakhi Unique Rural Enterprise, 10 biogas units have been installed in Kallam Block in Osmanabad, Maharashtra to invest in better health of rural women, the environment and the future of the planet.
