Empowerment of farm women with pulses production

Much like the entire economy, the pandemic left all the farmers in a state of helplessness & despair. With rates of essentials skyrocketing, pulses, a major source of nutrition were no exception.

Women farmers of Lohara, Osmanabad, found it difficult to reach the markets to sell their small amount of produce. To facilitate, SSP carried out scoping study in over 10 villages to organise women farmers in clusters & support them to increase their production through sustainable farming.

“Jagruti Mahila Utpadak Sangh” The women farmers’ organization supported by SSP and Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) are now working with the agricultural department, stakeholders to support the farmers in all aspects of production- from sowing to marketing. With this support, 60 women farmers produced 2 quintals of pulses.
