Sonali Beauty Parlour & Shivan Classes

When Sanjeevani More lost her husband about eight years ago, she was left with only unpaid loans they had taken for his treatment & 2 daughters. For four years, she tried to remain at home & run the family with a few tailoring assignments that would come her way off & on, but could not make enough money to run her family. In 2016, she joined a Self Help Group. Her network grew & so did her business. Such was the quality of her work that she became a well-known name & despite charging higher rates, her customers not only remained loyal to her but also introduced her to new customers. She was able to meet her financial requirements now.

In 2017, she had the opportunity to attend the 10-day entrepreneurship training program imparted by Swayam Shikshan Prayog. This gave her an idea & guidance about how to increase her business. Also, she obtained an enterprise loan of INR. 57,000 though SVEP scheme. She procured a few sewing machines & started a training center in her house by investing INR 30,000 (USD 410). Because of the credentials she had created earlier through her work, students flocked in. She gets 10 – 15 new students per month & she charges Rs. 1000/- per head per month. She trained 7 of her peers in her SHG as well. On an average, 70 students get trained by her, every year. After the training, most of them becomes her employees, who take orders from her & deliver the same after completing the work at their respective homes. Thus her diversification to training has helped to grow her initial tailoring business as well.

She has further added two businesses. She sells cut piece cloth, & stick them for the customers. Besides, she has started selling readymade dresses as well. These readymade dresses are designed by her younger daughter who is a self-taught fashion designer. She is a school goer otherwise, studying in class XII. They sell ladies blouse, trousers, tops – all designs made in-house. They maintain a good margin. Eventually, she got orders for school uniforms from 3 – 4 schools in the neighbouring areas. Currently, she has eight employees, each of them earns INR 5,000 to INR 7,000 per month.
