Entrepreneurship training helped Miratai to overcome Poverty!

“With guidance from Swayam Shikshan Prayog – SSP, I found my way & I persevered in my business. Today I am a successful entrepreneur,” says Miratai Vittal Waghmare from Bhoisamudraga village, Latur.

With only 14 gunta (0.25 acre) of dry land, Mira Tai’s family of four struggled to make their ends meet, let alone strive towards her dream to educate her children. In 2018, Meeratai met Mangaltai who introduced her to Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) & told her about how SSP works for the betterment of women. Meeratai explains ‘this moment as seeing light at the end of the tunnel’ & wasted no time in joining a Self-Help Group in her village.

She took entrepreneurship training from the organization. She got her first loan of Rs.10,000 with the organisation’s support. She started a vegetable business and grew vegetables in her small land, but could not earn as she expected.

Then she brought a papad making machine with a loan of Rs 20,000. Ever since, her papad business has been a great success as she is the only one to have a papad making machine in her village. Many customers from her village and four neighbouring villages come to buy papads from her. Her business flourished and now she earns a minimum of Rs.9500 per month. She is an equal contributor in her family and able to manage the cost of their children’s education and family’s expenses.

Miratai in these few years has become a role model for many women in her village, who now aspire to help their family out of poverty.
