Sangeeta L Dhumal, a 34-year-old farmer from Manjari Village in Latur, embodies resilience and determination. Married at the tender age of 13 to Mr. Dhumal, Sangeeta assumed the role of a mother to three stepchildren from her husband’s previous marriage, alongside raising her own daughter. Despite the complexities of her family dynamics, she embraced her responsibilities wholeheartedly, nurturing her step children—ages 7, 6, and 1—while simultaneously supporting her husband in managing their farming activities. However, the couple’s reliance on chemical farming practices resulted in a precarious economic situation, limiting their potential for growth.

For over a decade, Sangeeta devoted herself entirely to her family, suppressing her personal aspirations. In 2016, her life took a transformative turn when she was introduced to Swayam Shikshan Prayog SSP. Through her involvement with SSP, Sangeeta gained access to valuable training in agriculture, entrepreneurship and community engagement. Her impactful journey did not stop there; Sangeeta also played a pivotal role in advocating for chemical free farming practices, successfully convincing her husband to transition from chemical farming. Her efforts inspired over 50 women farmers in her community to adopt sustainable farming techniques, amplifying her influence and fostering a collective commitment to environmental stewardship.

Sangeeta attributes her achievements to the support and training provided by SSP, highlighting the importance of community empowerment in driving individual and collective success.
