On behalf of Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), we are honoured to invite you to join The Prema Gopalan Memorial Event on February 1, 2023. This memorial is being organised to commemorate and celebrate the late Ms. Prema Gopalan, champion of rural women, founder of SSP and a social entrepreneur par excellence.

1 st february 2023 marks her first birth anniversary after her passing on march 29, 2022.

Prematai’, as she was affectionately referred to, believed in the power of rural women to combat issues that impacted their poverty, nutrition, and climate change, to name a few. Working in the fragile drought-prone region of Maharashtra, she lent her voice to thousands of rural women, sakhis as she called them, inspiring them to stand up and take charge of their homes, their neighbourhoods and their villages. Through the strategic route of entrepreneurship and financial independence, she urged them to explore their leadership potential and create thriving models of development.

With worldwide recognition for her work, Prematai and SSP have been felicitated on national and global platforms. The most recent honour being conferred the community-led climate adaptation champion award at cop 27 in Egypt.

Our grassroot women leaders too have received recognition for their dedication and steely resolve to beat their circumstances and shine. We will be celebrating them on the 1st February at the event. Prematai would want it no other way.
